This 1990 Craftsman home, owned by the clients since its construction, was in need of a remodel to enhance functionality and flow on the main floor. The outdated layout, with red oak flooring and a cramped kitchen design, no longer suited the clients' lifestyle. They sought guidance on creating a brighter, more functional space.
Our remodel reimagined the entire main floor, starting with a complete kitchen overhaul. We relocated the range to an exterior wall, replacing the slide-in range with a drop-in induction cooktop, separate wall oven, and microwave. This redesign provided 30 inches of prep space on either side of the range and added a custom bar area with glass-fronted cabinets and in-cabinet lighting for a brighter, more open feel. Bottom cabinets were equipped with rollout trays for easy access, catering to the clients' needs as they age. We also discreetly concealed a power outlet in one drawer to keep electronics out of sight.
A new central island features a large Blanco sink and ample seating, enhancing both functionality and social interaction. We built a custom pantry by repurposing space from the front foyer and office area, offering extensive storage with 24-inch deep shelves for larger items and 12-inch deep shelves for dried goods.
In the living room, we updated the fireplace with dry-stacked stone, freshly painted built-in cabinets, and new carpet. The powder bathroom was revamped with a new vanity and fixtures for added storage and style. Bright, custom-colored 5-inch white oak planks replaced the outdated flooring throughout the space.
To improve the entryway, we removed the basement door and adjacent wall, brightening and opening up the entrance. The new handrail system, designed to match the clients’ custom vision, completed the transformation, turning the once dark and dated main floor into a welcoming and modern space.
