Grandfather's Legacy: Modernized Kitchen

This project beautifully intertwines the client's family heritage with contemporary living, harmonizing the past and present in a breathtaking transformation. With the objective of honoring the client's grandfather's legacy while updating the home, we embarked on a journey to create an open, luminous space that celebrates both tradition and modernity.

By raising the living room floor and removing existing kitchen walls, we not only enhanced natural light and panoramic views but also fostered an inviting ambiance conducive to both cooking and entertainment. During the design and discovery stages, we learned a column stood in the corner of our existing walls, which were to be removed, as well as the client's desire to keep the tongue and groove ceiling intact both out of respect for her grandfather and to adhere to the budget. Incorporating the existing structural element of a column holding the second story, we seamlessly integrated it into the design with wrapped wood that complements the faux beams. To address the need for additional lighting while preserving the ceiling, custom faux beams with integrated electrical wiring were meticulously crafted, illuminating the space with a rustic yet modern flair.

Situated in Evergreen, known for its challenging travel conditions, we implemented practical solutions to enhance the home's functionality. In-floor heating below large format tile flooring offers comfort in specified areas, while unheated zones cater to the comfort of furry companions. Additionally, our tile team's innovative approach maintained a seamless herringbone pattern, concealing the transition from where the now raised living room floor sat.

Special features abound, offering both aesthetic appeal and functional convenience, toe kick heat registers provide warmth near work zones, while hidden pullout cutting board and utensil storage ensure clean, clutter-free counters. Custom blue and wood tone cabinets from Dura Supreme evoke the tranquility of nature, complementing the warm veining in the tile floor. Touches of gold fixtures add a touch of warmth and elegance, tying the design together with sophistication.

This project transcends mere renovation, offering a heartfelt tribute to the past while embracing the demands of modern living. Through thoughtful design solutions and meticulous craftsmanship, we've created an inviting sanctuary that seamlessly integrates heritage with contemporary style, capturing the essence of family legacy in every detail.
