This project transformed a dated 1976 split-level home into a dynamic space perfect for hosting memorable dinner parties. Our objectives were clear: infuse the home with more natural light, improve traffic flow for seamless entertaining, and unify the kitchen and dining areas. Dark espresso cabinets and black quartz countertops were chosen to complement the home’s timeless design aesthetic, while new hardwood flooring seamlessly integrated with existing surfaces. A sola-tube skylight over the island amplified natural light, counteracting the somber ambiance of the previous drop ceiling.
Navigating design challenges, we addressed the obstruction posed by the living room stairs, strategically relocating the staircase to optimize the kitchen layout and appliance clearances. Additionally, we incorporated the client’s desire to enjoy views of the backyard while at the sink and to capture the morning sun by relocating the sink to an island, all while planning for future upgrades like French patio doors. We also relocated the main HVAC return into the new peninsula, ensuring optimal airflow while maintaining a clean cabinet aesthetic.
Special features were thoughtfully integrated to enhance both functionality and visual appeal. A bespoke coffee/drink bar with an upper wine rack provided smart storage solutions while keeping countertops clutter-free. Ample space around the drop-in induction range facilitated meal prep, and spice and tray divider pull-outs ensured easy access to essentials, contributing to an organized and tidy kitchen.
Through meticulous planning and execution, this remodel marries practicality with traditional style, resulting in a spacious and inviting kitchen perfect for entertaining. By meeting the client’s objectives and overcoming design challenges with innovative solutions, we revitalized this split-level home, creating a harmonious space ideal for gatherings and hosting.
